NINGBO

Across the bay from Shanghai, perched on a the misty hillsides surrounding a lake region sits our Ningbo workshop. In a region heavily influenced not only by the natural beautiful but by the broader Haipai culture developed over the two thousand years it has served as a trading stop along the Silk Road. Financial growth in the area has spurred much renovation to housing and infrastructure improvements to the famous finishing villages along the sinuous coastline. As dilapidated 200 year old timber structures make way for contemporary necessities, we have found an opportunity and use for the timber that would otherwise be waste.

Working with local construction contractors we have been able to harvest the timber that would have otherwise been disposed of.  With just the right amount of natural weathering and sprinkles of centuries old nail holes and patches, we find this reclaimed aromatic fir and old growth elm timber to be the perfect material for some of our more simply stated forms. The aromatics depth of grain bring depth and mystery to their latest form.
