BLISS STUDIO
We employ the finest wood-carvers, sculptors, cabinetmakers, potters, metal smiths, artisans, tradespeople, and designers to keep the tradition of the crafts person alive through thoughtful design. Our California based design team works hand-in-hand with our global guild, this process often leads to innovative perspectives on centuries old processes.
Between the very same foothills traversed by Gaspar de Portola, on land long inhabited by the Tongva, Juaneño, and Luiseño Indigenous peoples. On a coastline dotted with the first European colonies, in the area where scenic chaparral landscapes bleed into coastal shoreline, we founded our studio. With an innate sensitivity to the true nature of materials, the studios practice focuses on threading historical and cultural references through a modern lens. Naturalistic expressions and cultural context favored over prevailing trends.
“Soon it got dusk, a grapy dusk, a purple dusk over tangerine groves and long melon fields; the sun the color of pressed grapes, slashed with burgundy red, the fields the color of love and Spanish mysteries.”
–Jack Kerouac
I grew up here, I didn’t know life was suppose to be anything different. That field over there, where the Basque family use to graze their sheep, across from the orange grove is now my home, that hill with a view to Catalina, that is as far as I get some days. I travel a lot now and it has made me realize, this place, it’s a filter. It tints everything we do.”
